Oxidative Degradation of Benzo[a]pyrene by the Ligninolytic Fungi

چکیده
A maximal degradation rate (76%) was obtained when Polyporus sp. S133 was cultured with 0.05% of tween 80, as compared to just 35% degradation in non-supplemented cultures. When fungus Polyporus sp. S133 was grown in presence of shitake’s nutrient, the degradation rate increased up to 69% as compared to just 56 and 40% degradation in glucose and polypeptone supplemented cultures. One metabolite was identified as benzo[a]pyrene-6,12quinone, using UV-VIS chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and thin layer chromatography (TLC). Fungus Polyporus sp. S133 initiates benzo[a]pyrene degradation via deoxygenation at the C-6 and C12 ring positions to form quinine compound. For the first time, metabolism of benzo[a]pyrene in soil by Polyporus sp. S133 was investigated.

Mycoremediation of Benzo[a]pyrene by Pleurotus ostreatus in the presence of heavy metals and mediators
Benzo[a]pyrene is considered as a priority pollutant because of its carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects. The highly recalcitrant nature of Benzo[a]pyrene poses a major problem for its degradation. White-rot fungi such as Pleurotus ostreatus can degrade Benzo[a]pyrene by enzymes like laccase and manganese peroxidase. The present investigation was carried out to determine the extent o...

The white-rot fungus Pleurotus ostreatus was able to degrade the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) benzo[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, benzo[a]pyrene, dibenzo[a,h]anthracene, and benzo[ghi]perylene in nonsterile soil both in the presence and in the absence of cadmium and mercury. During 15 weeks of incubation, recovery of individual compounds was 16 t...
متن کاملOxidation of Anthracene and Benzo[a]pyrene by Laccases from Trametes versicolor.
The in vitro oxidation of the two polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons anthracene and benzo[a]pyrene, which have ionization potentials of <=7.45 eV, is catalyzed by laccases from Trametes versicolor. Crude laccase preparations were able to oxidize both anthracene and the potent carcinogen benzo[a]pyrene. Oxidation of benzo[a]pyrene was enhanced by the addition of the cooxidant 2,2(prm1)-azinobis(3-...
متن کاملBiodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by white rot fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium in sterile and unsterile soil
Ligninolytic white rot fungus, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, isolated from soil sample of petroleum refinery, was used for degradation of five polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs: acenaphthene, anthracene, phenanthrene, fluoranthene and pyrene), simultaneously and individually in sterile and unsterile soil. For maximum biodegradation, after 42 days of incubation, optimum conditions were pH 7....
